Flying Lessons

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) available for training. The CFI is an independent contractor and not affiliated with Freedom Field, but he does happen to be our neighbor. If interested in training, we will connect you with this CFI to schedule your flight. This would be fixed wing training in a 2 seater light sport aircraft. We can also refer you to a CFI specialized in Gyrocopter training. Please do your own research (light sport aircraft, sport pilot license, ultralight) and contact us when you are ready for your lesson ($175/hr.), or a 20 minute introductory flight ($75) over the Sacramento Valley.

Hangars for Rent

Freedom Field has aircraft hangars for rent, though we are usually full. When one does open up, we go to our waiting list first. Please contact us to be added to this wait list and we will notify you when a spot opens up. Our preference is to house airplanes to active sport pilots, but we will consider other items for general storage, i.e. boats, trailers, vehicles. Hangars are T-Hangar configuration, 28 ft. deep and 38 ft. wide (wingspan area) and currently rent for $275/month. This includes unlimited access to our 1,120 ft. grass airstrip during hours of operation (sunrise to sunset).

Enjoy the Thrill of Flying Solo!

Upon adequate instruction, you can safely fly an “ultralight” aircraft and this does not require a pilot license of any kind. An ultralight aircraft by legal definition is a light single-seat aircraft, and by convention are relatively inexpensive to purchase. You can also choose to attain your sport pilot license (20 hours of instruction required) and can then legally fly a light sport aircraft, which by definition is a light 1 or 2 seat aircraft. All instruction at Freedom Field at the moment take place in a 2-seat light sport aircraft. Please do your own research and then contact us when you are ready for take-off!

At Freedom Field our runway is adjacent to the hangars, there’s never a wait, we’re never congested and you can learn how to fly without the added pressure of dealing with a control tower or half a dozen aircraft in the pattern. Whether you are an old pro or just curious, whether you are in high school or in your golden years, flying is a thrill for all ages!

That's me with my daughter, who never misses a chance to fly with me. I was hooked on flying the minute I took my first commercial flight at age 15. I enlisted in the Navy right out of high school so I could become a Naval Aircrewman. I started flying lessons twice in my life but ran out of time and money both times. I acquired my Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation in 1995 but life then took me in a different direction. In 2014 after a 20 year break from aviation I finally found Freedom Field and quickly recaptured my love for flying… so much so that I bought the place! Today I’m a licensed Sport Pilot and working towards becoming an instructor. I’m 49 years, but I feel like a kid on Christmas morning every time I’m in my airplane!
